About Refugees

By definition, a refugee is “a person who has been forced to leave their country in order to escape war, persecution, or natural disaster.” Their experiences, education level, and background are as varied as anyone’s; the thing they have in common is having to flee the place they called home.

According to the latest UN reports , there are now over 43M refugees, and 122M forcibly displaced persons globally. Some of the largest populations in need of support are Syrians, Afghans, Sudanese, South Sudanese, Rohingya from Myanmar, and Congolese, but there are many other refugee nationalities.

Refugees can’t return home for fear they will be persecuted or killed. Around 66% of refugees have been displaced from their home for more than 5 years. Many of those people live in UN organized refugee camp while their skills and talents go to waste. Alternately, some refugees attempt to survive in a neighboring country in any way they can, often being taken advantage of as they attempt to make a living and feed their family.

Less than 1% of these globally displaced persons are given the opportunity to resettle in another country like the United States. For those refugees resettled in the US, they have undergone many years of eligibility interviews, health and background checks—the most vigorous vetting process of any entrant to the US (performed by both the UN and the US Department of Homeland Security).

Upon arrival in the US, refugees are legal residents and eligible to work right away. After so many years in limbo, they are eager to work and make a new start for their families.

Amplio performs background checks and uses the E-verify system to confirm the legitimacy of each employee, and is able to walk employers through the process of verifying documentation to prove the candidate’s right to work.
